Grade 2 GTE, First Term

Week 9

Homework: Revision worksheet (Due Monday)

This week we played a revision game and I also handed out a revision worksheet for you to practice at home over the weekend.

You can play the revision game here: www.baamboozle.com/game/3772313

Make sure you take some breaks with your studying and have some fun playing the games!

Week 8

Homework: GTE p.28-29 (Write a short story about an ANIMAL that includes lots of VERBS and pay attention to the example story on page 28. You can follow this style of writing for your story!)

For the writing lesson, we learned about verbs. Imagine a verb is a special kind of word that shows action or doing! Verbs are the "doing" words in a sentence. They tell you what someone or something is doing.
Here are some examples:
  • Jump (like when you jump up and down)
  • Run (like when you run outside to play)
  • Sing (like when you sing your favorite song)
  • Eat (like when you eat your lunch)
  • Sleep (like when you sleep in your bed)
See? All those words are actions. Let's try to find the verb in this sentence:
The dog barks loudly.
Which word tells you what the dog is doing?
That's right, barks is the verb!
So, remember: A verb is an action word! It's what's happening! You can usually do a verb!
Homework: GTE p.14-16 (also 17)       Presentation from the lesson

We started learning about the consonant blend 'sl' this week and we read Sleepyhead Sloth. Please read it at home and make sure you have it in class for the lessons!

For the homework, pages 14 and 16 are self-explanatory, but here are the instructions for p.15:
  • Look at the 'sl' words in the box
  • For each round, you should write down 9 DIFFERENT 'sl' words.
  • You can re-use the words in the different rounds.
  • Just make sure you don't write the same word more than one time per round.
  • Onlt write 'sl' words that you can find in the box on p.15 - you won't be able to win if you use any other 'sl' words.
We'll play the game together in the next lesson!

Week 7

Homework: GTE p.13, 21-22       Presentation from the lesson

This week, we finished up the GR consonant blend unit, and we read Lost in the Jungle. The classes practiced reading out loud and I have to say that everyone did a fantastic job! I encourage you all to read out loud at home and practice reading with lots of feeling - someting that we've been working on in class, too.

Here's a Lost in the Jungle  Blooket to play if you've got some free time. Enjoy! play.blooket.com/play?hwId=68f1b9743c035730a544fe4f

Week 6

This week, 2C got a bit further ahead and finished up the "gr" unit, while 2E is still catching up. 2E finished the second writing unit this week - writing a paragraph about their favorite animal groups. You can find the lesson below in week 5 👇

On Thursday, 2C learned about Groundhog Day and did the comprehension on GTE p.13 - here's the presentation from the lesson ✌️

We also played a revision blooket for the 'gr' blend. You can have a play here!

Week 5

Homework: GTE p.19-20 and 26-27     Presentation from the writing lesson

2E is a bit behind 2C because of the lessons that we missed due to holidays and typhoons 😟 That's OK though - we'll get caught up next week!

Last week, 2C read Red Planet and completed the pages in the GT Book (p.19-20). We'll do this in Friday's lesson with 2E 👍

This week, 2C was also able to learn about the different animal groups, and I assigned the writing homework to them (p.26-27). It was a fun and interesting lesson, and I was impressed with all that the class knew about different animals. You can check the presentation in the link above, and you can also watch the videos from the lesson below 👇

For the writing homework, I want you to focus on writing your sentences in a PARAGRAPH. A paragraph is a group of sentences that are grouped together. These sentences are all about a main idea (the first sentence of the paragraph).

Week 4

Homework: GTE p.8-9     Presentation from the lesson

What a fun lesson! We learned all about PRETZELS and we got a chance to eat them, too! You can have a look at the presentation above, and you can re-watch the video below. Yummy 😋

Week 3

Homework: GTE p.6-7     Presentation from the lesson

Today we started learning about the 'pr' consonant blend by reading The Princess and the Pretzel. There is some challenging vocabulary, so you can review it by clicking above or here.
For the homework, you should answer the comrehension questions on p.6 after reading the story. Page 7 is a bit more tricky - you need to use the clues to complete the crossword puzzle (*hint - all of the answers are 'pr' words)
If you look at the presentation from the lesson, you can find a fun easter egg in there 😉

Homework: GTE p.24-45     Presentation from the lesson

In today's lesson, we focused on writing complete sentences. Remember, a complete sentence has a subject and a verb. Let's have a look at the following sentence and highlight the subject and the verb: The dog barks loudly. The subject is the "who" or "what" the sentence is about, and the verb is what the subject is "doing."

We practiced identifying the subjects and verbs in the sentences on GTE p.25, and then I asked the class to draw a picture of their favorite animal and write four complete sentences about it for their homework. Being able to write complete sentences is an important building block for English!

Week 2

Homework: GTE p.5     Presentation from the lesson

Due to a shortened week this week, we've missed a lot of lessons :(
This week, we had a discussion and learned about traditions.
Traditions are special things that people do over and over again, often to celebrate important events or to remember loved ones. They can be things like:
  • Holidays: Like Christmas or Chinese New Year, when families have fun together.
  • Food: Eating special meals, like turkey on Thanksgiving.
  • Activities: Doing fun things, like singing songs or playing games at a festival.

Week 1

Homework: GTE p.2-4     Presentation from the lesson

It's been fun getting to know my Grade 2 classes this week. You've really impressed me with how good you are at English and how well-behaved you have been in class!!!

This week we learned about the /tr/ blend. Remember what a consonant blend is - it's when two consonant letters come together to make a new sound, but you can still hear each letter. And remember, consonants are all of the letters in the alphabet that are not the vowels (AEIOU).

You can find the presentation for this week's lesson here. Just click the link.

And an added bonus - here's the Blooket that we played in class. You can play and revise the /tr/ blend yourself at home! play.blooket.com/play?hwId=68ba85a2bf3fd5a8c834f6bc

Have a wonderful weekend and I will see all of you next week!
