Just like in the first writing unit, there is an example what you can follow - but don't copy it word-for-word. You can have a look at the example I showed you in class about fried rice.
Homework is to complete page 27 in your GTE book and hand it in on Thursday.

Tuesday, 19th September: Today you were all WONDERFUL students! You all particiapted so well in the lesson! I am so proud of you!!!
Today we talked about the difference between consonants and vowels, and learned more about consonant blends. The blend that we focused on today is "PR", and we read the story The Princess and the Pretzel. We didn't have a lot of time to go over the homework, so I will explain a bit more here. You can also find the PowerPoint from today's lesson, and I have also included the vocabulary from the story below 👇
See you on Thursday!

- For GTE p.6, you shold be able to answer the questions after reading the story. Please circle the correct answers.
- For p.7, use the clues to complete the crossword puzzle. All of the words come from the story, so you can also look below to find the words. Number 3 is "prank", number 4 is "prize", and number 6 is "promise" 😉
- Finally, for page 8, you should read the poem and underline all of the "pr" words. Then count them. Then write how many "pr" words you counted on the line.
See you on Thursday!

Monday, 18th September: Today we continued learning about animal groups and we learned how to do the writing on GTE p.25. I was so sad to miss school AGAIN on Thursday 😞 We listened to a cool song about the animal groups. Have a look below 👇
For the writing section on pages 24 and 25, I asked the class to circle their favorite animal group on p.24, and then answer the questions about it on p.25 (giving short answers). If you're writing about birds, make sure you don't copy the example word-for-word. Homework is to complete p.24+25 and hand it in tomorrow. Most of you could finish in the lesson time already - great job!!!

Week 2:
Tuesday, 12th September: Today we had a great discussion about animal groups to introduce the writing unit in their GTE books. I shared a PowerPoint and we talked about the differences in the different animal groups. I encourage you to have a look at the pictures below and ask your child about what they learned today!
Question of the day goes to RYAN for asking "Why can't humans breathe underwater?" when we were talking about fish and the function of their gills. Fantastic question, Ryan! I love it when my students show their curiosity!
No homework today! I'll see you all on Thursday!
Please make sure you bring your ORT books and Phonics Tales books to school tomorrow and put them in your locker.

Monday, 11th September: Today we finished the last page from Unit 1. We talked about TRADITIONS and some of the traditions that we have in Hong Kong, as well as some of the traditions that I have with my family in USA. One thing that would be super helpful to your child is to talk to them about some of your family traditions. Ask them questions about the traditions you might have, and let them ask you questions, too. Traditions can be things like birthdays or holidays. Maybe you travel every summer - that's a tradition for some. Do you gather with family on Sundays and yum cha? Maybe you go to church every week.
Engaging our children in discussions is SUPER important. One thing I shared with the class today is that I love it when they ask me querstions, because it means two things: (1) they're paying attention, and (2) they're interested in the topic we're learning. Not everyone will be interested in everthing I teach, but I'm going to always try my best to keep the kids engaged 😃
Homework is to complete page 5 in your GT English book and hand it in tomorrow. Have a look at the PowerPoint or PDF below of what we learned in today's lesson!

Week 1: Consonant blend 'tr'
Hi everybody and welcome to my class! It has been fun getting to know you all in the limited time we have had together this week!
In fact, we will only really have ONE real 'lesson' together in the first week, because Monday's lesson was cut short due to the assembly overrunning, and Thursday's lesson will turn into schoolbus training. So that leaves us with today's lesson only (Tuesday).
I will normally update my website once a week, with a wrap-up of what I taught that week. Sometimes I will update it more than once per week, so feel free to check back as often as you like!
Because we only have one lesson this week, I need to cram a bit more into the lesson than I normally would. In today's lesson, I introduced what a CONSONANT BLEND is.
You can see exactly what we learnt in the lesson by clicking on the pdf or the PowerPoint file below 👇

Because we only have one lesson this week, I need to cram a bit more into the lesson than I normally would. In today's lesson, I introduced what a CONSONANT BLEND is.
- In class, we brainstormed 'tr' words together on p.2, and I asked the class to write a sentence with three 'tr' words and draw a picture of it.
- For homework, I want you to complete pages 2, 3, and 4 of your GTE book.
- On page 3, you need to CIRCLE all of the 'tr' words and then draw a picture of what you would like to be for Halloween.
- Finally, on page 4, you need to look at the two pictures and write down all of the things that you see that begin with the 'tr' blend. Then count how many words you wrote and write the number inside of the star.
