Dialogue is just the talking part of a story—when characters speak to each other. Here are the simple rules for writing dialogue that a second grader can follow:Rules of Dialogue 🗣️
- Use quotation marks: Put " " around the words a character says. Example: "I love ice cream," said Mia.
- Start a new line: Every time a new person talks, you begin on a new line. Example:
- "Let’s play outside," said Ben.
- "Okay!" replied Sara.
- Add a tag: Tell who is speaking with words like said, asked, or shouted. Example: "Can we go swimming?" asked Leo.
- Keep it clear: Make sure the reader knows who is talking. Don’t let two characters speak without saying their names.
- Use punctuation inside the quotes: The period, question mark, or exclamation point goes inside the quotation marks. Example: "Watch out!"

Week 9
Homework: GTE p.21-22
In this week's lessons, we read The Lost Key. This time, I read out loud to the class. It's important to model reading to students from time to time so the students have a reading example to follow. It was an easy week, and I wasn't around on Friday, so it was a bit shorter than usual.

We also did a creative writing about our Dream House. For this writing, we focused on learning about adjectives and using adjectives to describe our dream houses in our writing. For the homework, you need to write at least four (4) sentences about your dream house to describe its size, color, and the special rooms it has. You should use adjectives to explain how it looks inside and outside. I can't wait to see what your dream house looks like!

This week we're reading The Broken Roof. Since the weather is so nice, I'm taking the classes up to the rooftop to read the story to them - It's wonderful! In the following lessons, each student will read out loud in class. I love seeing them progress as confident and clear readers!

Week 3
Homework: GTE p.8-9 Presentation from the lesson
We finished learning the "fl" consonant blend and we learned all about flamingos and why their feathers are pink.
Flamingos turn pink because of the food they eat. Their favorite snacks are tiny shrimp and little plants that live in the water. These foods have a special color ingredient called carotenoids (the same thing that makes carrots orange). When flamingos eat lots of shrimp and plants, that color goes into their bodies and slowly changes their feathers from plain gray to bright pink. It’s kind of like how eating blueberries can make your tongue turn purple for a little while—except for flamingos, the color stays in their feathers!

This week we wrapped up the "cl" consonant blend unit and started learning "fl" consonant blends. We read Flora Flamingo Learns to Fly and had good discussions about new "fl" vocabulary. You can have a look at the link for the lesson presentation above if you want to review more!
We also played a Blooket in one of the lessons to review the "cl" consonant blend. You can play it here: play.blooket.com/play?hwId=693778e64dba1bf38da3907e
We had a lot of fun finding objects in the clouds, too! At least when there were some clouds in the sky! They really enjoyed going up to the rooftop garden to learn!

Homework: GTE p.2-5 Presentation from the lesson
Hello, everyone!
I want to remind you to bring back your Phonics Tales books to school if you took them home to study. You only need to bring the ones we haven’t talked about in class. You can keep all the first term books at home!
This week, we started learning about the CL blend and read "Clark and Cleo's Clouds." You can check out the presentation above. We also went up to the roof to look at clouds, but only 2C saw them because the weather was so nice for 2E—there were no clouds in the sky! Next week we will wrap-up the first unit. In the meantime, please remember to read Clark and Cleos Clouds at home and bring it back to school along with the rest of the Phonics Tales books!
